It’s A Bush Vacation Close to Gqeberha (Formerly Port Elizabeth)

Travel can be exhausting, which is why it’s so fortunate that Shamwari is situated under an hour’s drive from Gqeberha via the N2 highway. If you reside in a different province (or country) – don’t worry. Direct flights are available from most of South Africa’s major provinces to the Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport (formerly the Port Elizabeth International Airport), which is also conveniently located nearby.

Should you opt to fly to Gqeberha, guests can either rent a vehicle at the airport and drive to the reserve themselves or make use of our preferred road transfer service, which is available for an additional fee. Centrally located within the nearby city, the Safari Transfer Company offers transfers to and from Shamwari and is a fully accredited company with all of the necessary liability and insurance in place.

Guests can also request and book charter flights when making their reservation (once again available at an extra cost). Have a look at our road transfer packages here.

Experience the Unspoiled Beauty of the Eastern Cape

Surrounding yourself with nature is good for boosting morale, so for a safari experience without equal, you’ll want to book your safari vacation at Shamwari. A great deal of hard work and dedication has gone into – and continues to go into – ensuring that our game and nature reserve is counted amongst the best of the South African game reserves.

Throughout the past 25 years, Shamwari has worked tirelessly to undo the damage done by early farmers and hunters of the region. Today, the land has been returned to its former glory: locally extinct animal species were reintroduced and those that remained were allowed to grow their numbers. Thanks to the continued efforts of the Shamwari Wildlife Department, our private game reserve is home to one of the greatest wildlife concentrations in both the Eastern and Southern Cape.

It’s possible to see all of the members of the Big Five during your safari holiday, as well as plenty of other interesting creatures, such as the flightless dung beetle, red-billed oxpecker, a wide variety of ungulates and more. The South African landscape is a diverse one and at Shamwari, our guests are exposed to five of our country’s seven biomes. This not only makes it one of the most unique game and nature reserves around but also ensures that you get to enjoy a broad spectrum of scenery, all without setting foot off the grounds.

Enjoy an unrivalled bush escape at Shamwari by breathing in the fresh air and appreciating all that nature has to offer.
