Why Indulging in One of the Private Safari Experiences in South Africa is a Must
South Africa is without a doubt one of the most gorgeous countries in the world. This is in no small part thanks to our country’s wealth of unspoiled wilderness and the unique wildlife that inhabit it. If you wish to experience the best of the African bush, then you need to indulge in a private safari and 5-star experiences at one of South Africa’s top private game reserves, such as Shamwari.
Why should I opt for a private safari in South Africa instead of visiting a national park?
- You get access to a dedicated guide and game viewing vehicle
- Your dedicated guide/ranger is exceptionally skilled and highly experienced, offering up their intimate knowledge of the region, its fauna, and flora
- You’re exposed to unbelievable wildlife encounters
- You can look forward to admiring some of the best sunsets in your life, complete with refreshments and snacks
- You’re treated to uncompromising luxury – it’ll be as though you are the reserve’s only guest
Private Safari Game Drives at Shamwari
Private safaris are perfect for families, groups, or individuals looking to experience nature up close and unlike ever before. At Shamwari you get to look forward to two safari drives per day – one around sunrise and the other around sunset. These are the hours when wildlife is most active.
Shamwari game drives last around 3-4 hours and take you throughout the reserve. Within this time, you’ll get to survey different areas, behold the majestic birds of prey circling above, and spot the members of the Big Five (along with other species) in their natural habitat.
Shamwari’s rangers and guides are passionate about sharing their wildlife knowledge with guests, ensuring you leave every safari game drive with new insights and a newfound appreciation of our natural world. Tell your ranger/guide about any specific interests you may have prior to departure and they will do their utmost to include it during your safari drive(s).
Our safari vehicles are comfortable and open, giving you uninhibited views of your surroundings. A coffee and a sundowner stop are included on the morning and afternoon game drives respectively.
As a COVID-19 precaution, a maximum of six individuals per game viewing vehicle is permitted. For further peace of mind, we no longer allow the sharing of binoculars or other equipment, refreshments and snacks are individually packaged and all of our vehicles get disinfected in-between drives.
If your travel party consists of less than six individuals and you still wish to enjoy a private drive, then you can request your own, exclusive-use game viewing vehicle, for an additional fee.
Guided Bush Walks at Shamwari
If you’re looking for an even closer encounter with nature, Shamwari also offers guided bush walks. When on a safari bush walk, you get to enjoy a unique perspective of the indigenous fauna and flora found in the Eastern Cape. Your ranger/guide will make you aware of any wildlife, animal dung, or tracks you may come across during your private walking safari, as well as educate you on the region’s rich history.
To get a better understanding of the bush, native animals, and the African landscape, be sure to request a guided bush walk when making your reservation.
Shamwari’s Private Safari Accommodation Options
Taking COVID-19 regulations into consideration, we have decided to temporarily keep several of our private safari lodge accommodation options closed.
Shamwari’s temporarily closed lodgings
But fear not! Two of our 5-star lodgings remain operational and a third (Sindile) is set to reopen in June 2021.
Long Lee Manor
Shamwari’s historic manor house has been recently renovated and redesigned (2019) to continue offering our guests an exceptional stay. Long Lee Manor overlooks the reserve’s sweeping plains and is equipped with all the modern amenities and facilities you could desire, including a gorgeous rim-flow swimming pool. Its Edwardian-style rooms and general ambience add a touch of romance to every stay.
Long Lee Manor consists of 17 luxury rooms and a single 2-bedroom suite. The manor house is amongst the best lodgings on the property for large groups looking to indulge in a private safari experience together.
