As part of our game lodge specials, South African guests get to take part in various activities not only designed to bring them closer to nature but also to instil newfound respect for the natural world. By the end of your stay at Long Lee Manor, your travel party will have enjoyed both the greatest luxuries and the most thrilling wildlife experiences South Africa has to offer.

Experience Nature Up Close With Guided Game Drives and Bush Walks

Guests are treated to two professionally guided game drives per day: one in the morning and the other in the afternoon. These are the times when the wildlife is at their most active. All Shamwari game viewing vehicles are comfortably equipped and open, ensuring you get a gorgeous panoramic view of the area surrounding you.

Every Shamwari game drive lasts between three and four hours. You’ll be taken on a journey across the reserve and be treated to a coffee stop during the morning drive and a sundowner stop during the afternoon drive.

Experience Nature Up Close With Guided Game Drives and Bush Walks

Shamwari also gives guests a chance to go on a professionally guided walking safari. During these walks, our rangers will share their wealth of knowledge on the reserve, its wildlife, and the region. Their insights make every natural encounter a memorable one. Get to know the indigenous fauna and flora by getting up close – our guides will point out any animal dung, tracks, birdlife and more you come across during your bush walk.

Should you have a specific area of interest, we welcome you to inform your guide before setting off on either a game drive or bush walk. Your guide will go above and beyond to try and include it along the way.

Visit Our Born Free Big Cat Sanctuary and Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre

Visit Our Born Free Big Cat Sanctuary and Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre

At Shamwari, we’re passionate about conserving a vanishing way of life. One of the conservation efforts especially close to our heart is the onsite Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre. Here, we help to rehabilitate and care for injured, sick, orphaned and abandoned wildlife. Our skilled veterinary team sees to it that all animals under our care are fully nursed back to health before being released back into the wild.

As part of the Long Lee Manor game lodge special, you’ll get to visit the Shamwari Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre. Once you’ve arrived at the centre, you’ll be welcomed by a member of the team. The team member in question will then proceed to give you a tour of the facilities and give an explanation of the goings-on.

Visits to the centre aren’t interactive – this is to give all animal patients the best chance at a successful reintroduction to the wild. However, visits do promise to be both educational and informative. While recovering, wildlife is housed in custom-built camps. Should there be any animals at the centre during your visit, an opportunity to view them may arise.

The Shamwari rehabilitation Centre’s ultimate goal is to return all wildlife in our care back to the wild or at the very least give them the best chance possible at survival.

Shamwaris Born Free Big Cat Sanctuary

Shamwari’s Born Free Big Cat Sanctuary was established in partnership with the actress, Virginia McKenna, and her Born Free Foundation. The wildlife rescue and education centre found on the reserve was designed to act as both a sanctuary and educational facility. Its main goal is to spread awareness of the terrible way in which wildlife get exploited in captivity around the globe. The centre also aims to draw attention to the fate of big cats that find themselves held captive and confined in impoverished conditions.

Born Free focuses on the promotion of species conservation, as well as the protection of habitats – all the while maintaining a humane and compassionate approach to animal welfare. Our Born Free Big Cat Sanctuary houses rescued big cats, such as lions and leopards, from all over the world. A visit during your game lodge special splurge should prove to be exceptionally enlightening.
