Lavelikhwezi empowerment project

DID YOU KNOW: Lavelikhwezi means ‘rising star’ or ‘tomorrow’s bright morning star’ in Xhosa, a local southern African language.

 

Established in 2019, the Lavelikhwezi Empowerment Project is a women’s livelihood project initiated by the Born Free Foundation based at Shamwari Private Game Reserve. The aim is to support the creation of sustainable income opportunities for local Paterson community members.

 

Lavelikhwezi Outcomes:

  • Finance and Workload Management Training
  • Providing Tools for Self-Sufficiency and Diversified Income
  • Empowering Women as Community Role-Models

New Lavelikhwezi Headquarters R600,000 Investment

Shamwari Foundation is gathering funds to help Lavelikhwezi create a new production headquarters.

Lavelikhwezi projects currently operate from shared accommodation in the town of Paterson. The goal is to expand by purchasing an existing Paterson property and renovating it to specifications. The basic requirements would include a spacious production area, storeroom, bathroom, and fully equipped kitchen.

Current Contribution Goal: R837,000

TO EXPAND OUR IMPACT WE NEED:

  • R600,000 = New Production Headquarters
  • R220,000 = 1 X Delivery Van (Based on Suzuki Eeco 1.2l Panel Van)
  • R10,000 = General Product Materials
  • R3,500 = Sewing Machine (Per Unit)
  • R3,500 = General Training Costs
