The Eastern Cape Is One Of The Best Safari Honeymoon Destinations
The Eastern Cape has been blessed with both natural and cultural diversity. Especially renowned for the evergreen vegetation of the Tsitsikamma Forest at the end of the Garden Route. Furthermore, the Eastern Cape is home to the Baviaanskloof Wilderness, the slopes of the Drakensberg Mountains and part of the Great Karoo. This unique province has so much more than just one face to show you.
Another Eastern Cape point of interest is its awe-inspiring coastline. It’s the ideal place for water sport enthusiasts and beach bodies alike. Nearby Jeffrey’s Bay and Cape St Francis are a surfer’s paradise – a host of international surfing competitions are held here for good reason.
Keen anglers are also in for a treat, as there’s a multitude of fish to be caught in the region.
The region’s coastal winds can reach impressive speeds, which makes for exciting kite-surfing conditions, as well as sailing, windsurfing and other wind sports. Perfect for the adrenaline junkies out there.
For more general information about the province, visit the Eastern Cape’s official tourism board here.
The Eastern Cape has always been an area historically rich in wildlife. The grounds upon which Shamwari sit today were, however, in the past greatly impacted by over hunting and farming. During the last 25 years, Shamwari has managed to rehabilitate the grounds and allow the remaining wild animal species to increase their numbers. Locally extinct species were also reintroduced with great success during this period.
After many years of decimation, Shamwari has managed to turn the lands back into a functioning and flourishing ecosystem. Yet, the job is never done – Shamwari Private Game Reserve, in cooperation with the Wildlife Department, continues looking for innovations to improve, grow and enhance the ecology, the land and the greater Eastern Cape area.
Because we make the responsible management and long-term ecological sustainability of the area a priority, Shamwari’s wildlife and plant life have flourished as a result. Being home to five of South Africa’s seven biomes, Shamwari truly is a destination unlike any other. There’s just so much to do, see and experience.
The area is host to a diverse biodiversity. Shamwari is rich in vegetation types that are suitable for an interesting variety of animal species. A healthy population of carnivores, including lions, cheetahs and leopards, are sustained by an equally healthy population of ungulates.
The white rhino makes its home in the grasslands, while the elephant and black rhino prefer browsing the subtropical thicket. Hippos can be found near the river. These animals – and many more – can be found wandering the protected grounds of Shamwari.
Ultimately, going on safari is unique each and every time, creating memories that fill a special place in your heart. You will never have two safari experiences that are alike. Each thrilling wildlife interaction will be different from the next.
Experiencing the thrilling sights and sounds of South Africa as your first married adventure together is wildly romantic and sets the tone for all future adventures to come. Going on a safari honeymoon will create unforgettable memories to cherish for a lifetime.
The Eastern Cape is a gem amongst South Africa’s provinces.
