Wildlife Conservation
LIVING AS NATURE INTENDED
At Shamwari, we don’t just stand for conservation—we walk alongside it. An enduring journey, the conservation pillar of the Shamwari Foundation pioneers’ projects focused on wildlife rehabilitation, protection of endangered species, and anti-poaching efforts, to name but a few. Alongside invaluable partners, we are committed to protecting, restoring and advocating for the precious wildlife within our care. Every rhino we shield from poachers and each vulture we reintroduce into the wild are instrumental to the safety of our shared ecosystem for generations to come.

Wildlife Conservation Projects
Founded in 2018, The Shamwari Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre (WRC) is an established and registered rehabilitation facility.
As one of the few organisations in Africa focused exclusively on protecting and rehabilitating vultures, VulPro operates throughout Southern Africa, and together with the Shamwari Foundation, VulPro@SHAMWARI operates at the Eastern Cape rehabilitation centre.
Born Free Foundation operates two big cat sanctuaries in the Eastern Cape in partnership with the Shamwari Foundation.
Passionate about rhino conservation, Shamwari Private Game Reserve employs an expertly trained anti-poaching unit. However, poaching regimes have become increasingly sophisticated, and ongoing upgrades to monitoring and tracking equipment are needed to stay a step ahead of poachers.
Leopards found in problematic environments need to be carefully captured and moved to a safe habitat as quickly as possible.
Part of ensuring a healthy and thriving game reserve is managing the variety of wildlife that call it home, and there are times when animals need to be relocated to another reserve to keep the ecosystem balanced.
