Safe Relocation and Release

General Wildlife Management

DID YOU KNOW: Wildlife numbers in conservation reserves are managed using ecological studies to ensure that the land can happily sustain various species.

Part of ensuring a healthy and thriving game reserve is managing the variety of wildlife that call it home, and there are times when animals need to be relocated to another reserve to keep the ecosystem balanced.

Capturing for Relocation:

Every species requires a capture method unique to their needs and safety. The process can involve helicopters, darting or passive capture, using a non-lethal trapdoor enclosure. This method is time-consuming and requires physical monitoring to close the door by hand.

But the trapdoor method remains the least stressful version of relocation for animals.

What is Needed:

  • Upgrade and install remote-controlled passive capture systems to streamline the process and reduce the time it takes to relocate the animals.

Why Save African Vultures:

Vultures are highly efficient scavengers that play a vital role in the African ecosystem. Their capacity to complete the lifecycle of a carcass prevents the spread of disease and safeguards both human and animal health.

Current Contribution Goal: R200,000
