DID YOU KNOW: The Born Free Big Cat Sanctuaries have been operating from the Shamwari Private Game Reserve since 1996.

 

Born Free Foundation operates two big cat sanctuaries in the Eastern Cape in partnership with the Shamwari Foundation. The sanctuary rescues lions and leopards from zoos, circuses, private ownership and other captive facilities.

 

Troubles Faced by Rescued Big Cats:

  • Trauma-Related Behavioural Issues
  • Malnutrition from Poor Living Conditions
  • Unable to Return to the Wild
  • Scars of Abuse and Neglect

 

Born Free Addresses These Troubles by:

  • Rescues from All Around the World
  • Rehoming the cats in large enclosures
  • The enclosures are Surrounded by Natural Vegetation
  • Nutritionally Fed with High-Quality Diets
  • Veterinary Care
  • Consistent Monitoring and Care

Why Support the Sanctuaries

Providing a safe home and fresh start, for these traumatized cats. These sanctuaries may be the first time some of the rescued cats have felt grass beneath their paws.

Current Contribution Goal: R5,100,000

  • R600,000 = Upgrade Food Preparation and Storage Facility
  • R350,000 = Realtime Webcamera Monitoring System (Per Setup)
  • R300,000 = International Rescue and Relocation (Per Cat)
  • R60,000 = Local Rescue and Relocation (Per Cat)
