SHAMWARI MEANS TO BE A FRIEND
Shamwari Foundation
The Shamwari Foundation shares a longstanding friendship with the wildlife, environment and
people who call the Eastern Cape region home. And at the heart of this friendship is an ecosystem
based on mutual trust and support. It seems appropriate then that in Shona, a Southern African
language, Shamwari means “friend”.
Since one cannot exist without the other, the foundation aims to facilitate a deeper connection and
understanding between people and nature.
The Shamwari Foundation remains a resolute force of nature, entirely devoted to the conservation of
wildlife, the restoration of the environment, and the development of communities. Established as
part of the Shamwari Private Game Reserve in South Africa, the foundation is instrumental in
safeguarding endangered species, rehabilitating injured wildlife, and advocating for sustainable
conservation practices.
The footprint of each conservation project is far-reaching. The Shamwari Foundation believes that
no project is impossible and continually finds new and innovative ways to expand its reach.
Alongside strategic partners and contributors, the Shamwari Foundation continues to make a
lasting impact on preserving part of Africa’s rich biodiversity for future generations.
