On the Move: Going for a Game Drive or Guided Bush Walk
Leave your luxury lodge for a bit to go on some of the best game viewing experiences of your life. Game drives at Shamwari take place twice daily: in the morning and again in the afternoon. This is because the wildlife is most active during the hours surrounding sunrise and sunset.
Our game viewing vehicles are comfortable, open and provide you with a panoramic view of the landscape. Each game drive is around 3-4 hours long and takes you throughout the reserve. A coffee stop is included on the morning game drive and a sundowner stop on the afternoon drive. If you or your partner have a specific area of interest, please inform your guide and they will try to include it along the way.
Couples who love to get their blood flowing should go on one of our professionally guided bush walks. During your walk, your dedicated ranger shares their intimate knowledge of the local fauna and flora, as well as their personal insights, making it both an entertaining and educational experience.

Stop by the Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre and Born Free Big Cat Sanctuaries
In collaboration with actress and author, Virginia McKenna’s Born Free Foundation, Shamwari designed and developed the Big Cat Rescue and Education Centres. The ultimate goal of the Rescue and Education Centres are to draw attention to the exploitation of captive big cats across the globe, rescuing them from dire situations. Two centres, the Julie Ward Centre and the Jean Byrd Centre, can be found on opposite ends of the reserve. Visits promise to be touching, as well as eye-opening.

Another must-visit location when you travel to Shamwari is the Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre.
