The Shamwari Team’s Beach Clean-Up 2017

On the 29th of May 2017, 25 members of the Shamwari Team headed to Port Elizabeth to participate in a beach clean-up. As part of the many celebratory initiatives Shamwari Game Reserve is organising for our 25th Anniversary, the Shamwari Game Reserve team, including Rangers, Guides and staff members from all departments came together to do a beach clean-up at Humewood Beach.

As Shamwari is conservation-orientated, we value the importance of making a positive impact on the environment. This is our way of bringing awareness to one and all about the absolute necessity minimising our use of plastics is, as well as shining a spotlight on giving general consideration to the prevention of littering in Mother Nature’s backyard.

Shamwari Group General Manager, Joe Cloete’s thoughts on the initiative:

“It’s everyone’s responsibility to be cognisant of recycling, reusing and upcycling in our everyday lives and to conserve a vanishing way of life. When confronted with litter on the beach which has been washed up on shore it reiterates the urgency of the situation.”

Humewood Beach is South Africa’s oldest blue flag beach and is enjoyed by families for relaxing and recreational activities. Just one of the many amazing tourist hotspots to enjoy in the Nelson Mandela Bay area.

We used the hashtag #shamwarioceanrescue to create interaction with our social media followers and to get them involved. All in all, we had a successful and fantastic day of team-building as well as filling several bags with various forms of plastic and pollution. With it being a great success, we plan to make this an annual occasion.
