My name is Sashna Ramkhelawan. I was brought up in a strict Indian home in a small town called Ladysmith in Kwazulu-Natal. There was always pressure in my home to achieve high standards; I knew my parents always wanted me to be a lawyer, secretly I had a passion for food but didnít dare bring that up!
I first started cooking Indian food with my grandmother at the tender age of eleven. Surrounded by different cultures and traditions, I was inspired. I watched the food channel incessantly and sneaked into the home economics class at school to learn more. I was hooked! Finally, I made my way to Fusion Cooking School in Durban where I learnt about Global Cuisine.
I happily spent my apprentice experience at Harveyís Restaurant and Granny Mouse Country House in the Natal midlands where I implemented all that I had learnt and tripled it. Shortly after this I applied for a job here at Shamwari and this is where I now find myself, as a Commis Chef at Eagles Crag Lodge.
Thrilled to be here, I am grasping every bit of information I can and working everyday to make great food. The Senior Sous Chef and Junior Sous Chef at Eagles Crag inspire me, not only because they are female chefs, but because they think on their feet. So with this in mind, itís back to the kitchen with me. I look forward to cooking for you!
